  2. [28 Sep 17-20z] EFES C1 CPT

Good luck to Antti today on his checkout. Supporting ATC on Helsinki tower and ground at least. IFR/VFR, departure, arrival or transit, you name it. Welcome!
  3. [Thu 21st Sep 17-20z] S2 CPT EFHK_TWR

Congratulations. Three weeks of checkouts in a row and three passes. Lets have fourth one next week as well!
  4. Cross the Pond Eastbound 2017 application

Every field gets equal amount of slots. EGKK is not given more slots than any other airport. UK slots usually go the fastest and also gather most interest from non-event traffic. / Jouka

  9. NAX or IBK ?

Well, in the end it really comes into which operator operates the flight, Norwegian Air Norway or Nirwegian Air International. Could be that Denmark has a bit of cross operation with some routes flown by Norwegian Air International and some by Norwegian Air Norway. I just made a quick overly simple differnece between both and most likely in reality the relationship between companies are much more complex under the parent company.
  10. NAX or IBK ?

NAX - NORSHUTTLE callsign is used when the flight is operated by Norwegian Air Norway. That is when the flight is based in Norway, Sweden or Denmark IBK - NORTRANS callsign is used when the flight is operated by Norwegian Air International. That is when the flight is based anywhere else than Norway, Sweden or Denmark By based I mean where the rotation starts and crew is based. For example NAX1302 and NAX1303 is a rotation from ENGM to EGKK and back to ENGM While IBK2801 is rotation from EGKK to ENGM and back to EGKK. Notice the difference that NAX flight starts from ENGM and IBK flight starts from EGKK. / Jouka
  11. Alias Exhange

@Henrik Sonstebo Done! @Krister Larsen Exactly same thing but I think you covered it more in depth
  12. Alias Exhange

Nice idea. My alias file is for Finland so there is not much help in Norway I guess. However looking at your alias I find there is few shortcuts to be made. Aliases are really powerful to gain information from Euroscope when given command to. For example on the handoffs you have following: ".ctwr Contact Gardermoen Tower (ENGM_TWR) on frequency 118.30, so long." While you can actually get rid of all individual handoff lines and replace them with one single line, for example ".c Contact $radioname($1) frequency $freq($1), Goodbye!" On that line I press ".c *space* and it jumps to $radioname($1) where I just have to type the short code of the station I am initiating handoff to and hit space again and it fills up the name and frequency automatically. For example: ".c *space* hktwe *space*" And it will fill up following "Contact Helsinki Tower on frequency 118.600, Goodbye!" That is just one example and there is so much more for descends, headings etc. Where the alias can get information directly from the label input controller has made. For example on descend you can first put the altitude on the label and then put in the alias and the alias will fill up with the assigned altitude from the label. In case you want to have a look on my alias file, here it is. Not saying it's complete or perfect by any means but you might be able to catch trick or two I have used alias finland.txt

  15. NEFAB (Free route airspace)

The NEFRA project is taking another step forward allowing flights to take cross border directs between the different blocks when flights are cruising above FL285. Therefore in future flights can plan direct from Finland-Russia Border Straight to Denmark-UK border as long as the flight path stays inside the NEFRA area and the flight is flying above FL285. Flights below FL285 has to follow the rules of different blocks still and file a waypoint between the block borders. This is going to be implemented on 25.5.2017 and I recon should be used also on VATSIM. On controller side most noticeable change will be longer directs and "ghost" COPX points because there is no more waypoint filed for example between Sweden and Finland on flights using the FRA. Local rules do still apply with departure and exit points etc. So for example from Helsinki, you have to follow the departure procedure to the FRA entry point before you can take a direct. Most problems as a controller will probably raise when checking the validity of flight plan. It's good the have general idea for example of the main Scandinavian airport FRA entry and exit points. Especially for your own country but preferably for other big airports as well, so you can give better service helping pilots with flight planning. Maybe we could also make up some kind of controller FRA guide which would have all the procedures needed for quick access to check if the waypoints and procedures the pilot has filed are valid. Other than that FRA should not be that big of a problem to control because the traffic levels on Vatsim are rather low. During events it might be good to remind pilots to use the ATS system though as it eases the controller workload. Here are now some links with great information any controller can have a look if they are interested. 16. Suggestion for ATC chart

It's almost impossible to make such a map because for example in Finland there is so many different sector split and ownership combinations with different sectors being online. Lets take an example. Normally EFES_D_CTR is online handling all Finnish sectors. The EFES_G_CTR logs on and takes some of those sectors in his ownership and some of the sectors are left for D_CTR. Then again EFES_J_CTR logs on etc etc. Different sectors are opened where needed and there is no standard route where with this sector online, next this, that and that has to be opened in certain order. Ownerships vary depending on which combination of sectors are on. Therefore to cover all the possible combinations we would need to make +100 individual charts just for one country. Practical? No. General concept is that in Finland, Sweden, Denmark and Iceland a sector that owns all other sectors with no-one else online is manned first. Only in Norway there is different concept where the areas are split a bit but even there the first Oslo Sector to log on should cover all other Oslo sectors as well. That's why in Finland we always use EFES_D_CTR first. That owns all the other Finnish sectors. Sector ownership in the end is very complicated thing with, as said, multiple different combinations. But in general the first position opened should cover all the other sectors as well.
  17. Hello, Filip Hellman is having his S2 checkout on 23rd of March. 18. This Thrusday we are having another training with filip on either tower or ground depending on if we get other controllers to split it. Nevertheless you are welcome to weekly Helsinki in Sight event where Filip will try to get everything flow smoothly.
  19. Hello all! Filip Hellman will have his second online training this Thrusday during the Helsinki in Sight event. Come and visit Helsinki with your big jet or a small propeller or anything in between and support Filip on his training towards S2 rating. Jouka
  20. Top 2016 controllers

Having 4 Finnish controllers on the top 10 list seems amazing from FIR director point of view. Thanks a lot to all Finnish controllers in 2016 for helping to get Finland more and more active. Still remember when I started and Finland was opensky and did not have that many controllers. Those times are now behind and we can look into brighter future! Also thanks to everyone else contributing their free time on controlling on Vatsim Scandinavia positions last year. Lets try to make 2017 even more active in each country!
