Hello pilots & controllers 🙋🏻♂️
We’ve just wrapped up our first board meeting of 2026, and I’d like to share the key decisions and changes coming out of it.
New role: Deputy FIR Director
Workload across the FIRs has been steadily increasing, so we’re introducing a Deputy FIR Director role to support management and operational tasks within each FIR.
• The Deputy FIR Director will join board meetings as a non-voting board member.
• The FIR Director appoints this role at their discretion, including scope of duties and duration.
Events Department: expanded responsibilities
The Events Department will now take on responsibility for VATSIM Scandinavia’s social media.
This shouldn’t feel like a dramatic change, the team already handles most event-related social media, but this update clarifies ownership and streamlines coordination.
The Events team will also now own and maintain VATSIM Scandinavia’s graphical profile (banners, templates, visuals, etc.). Major changes to the overall brand direction will still require board approval.
New: NavData Department (per country)
To recognize and support the significant work being done by community contributors, we’re introducing a NavData Department in each country.
Each country team will be led by a Team Lead, supported by additional members, and will maintain the operational data/software used by the FIR.
The name is still a placeholder; we ask the community to help define this team in collaboration with the FIR Directors.
Pilot Training Department: suspended (for now)
After discussions with the Pilot Training team about long-term sustainability,
we’ve jointly decided to suspend the Pilot Training Department until we can maintain a healthy, stable pool of flight instructors.
We’re truly sorry to the pilots who have been waiting in the training queue.
We’ve already taken steps to help affected pilots seek training through other organizations, so nobody is left without options.
Thank you to everyone who volunteers their time to keep VATSIM Scandinavia moving, it genuinely matters.
Upcoming constitution update
We’re also getting close to finalizing a new VATSIM Scandinavia constitution,
which will formally support and document the governance and structural changes outlined above.
We’ll share more details as we move into the final stages.
